Welcome everybody to the okra page.

Today I bought a very delicious meal made of this vegetable and found out for myself
that I love it.I did some research on the internet and found some information about

About okra

Botanical Name: Hibiscus esculenta

Different names:Lady Fingers, Gombo, Okro, Ochro, Okoro, Quimgombo, Quingumbo, Jiao Dou, Kok-Tau, Kopi Arab, Kacang Bendi, Bendi (Malaysia), bhindi, bindi, bamia bamiya, bamieh.

Purchasing:Choose young, firm, dry pods,tender but not soft no more than 3-4 inches in length. Older okra is tough and fibrous.Avoid buying okra with dark, brown spots.

Cooking:Okra can be served raw, it can be broiled, steamed, grilled, stir-fried, microwaved, baked and pickled.

Okra, green vegetable of African origin is cultivated for its green pods. When cooked, it releases sticky thickening substance that is used for stews and soups.
